
Tartu is situated in Southern Estonia and connects to the world primarily through Tartu airport and Tallinn (Estonia's capital) international airport. Distance between Tallinn and Tartu is approximately 186 km.

There are several ways to get to Tartu.
Getting to Tartu by plane
The Tallinn international airport is located at the edge of the city, on the road to Tartu. It will take approximately two and a half hours to drive to Tartu.
You can fly directly to Tallinn Lennart Meri airport, take a taxi from the airport to the bus station (about 100 EEK, 6 EUR), and take a bus to Tartu (about 150 EEK, 10 EUR). The distance between Tallinn and Tartu is 186 km. Buses leave almost every 30 minutes from 6.10 in the morning (6.10 a.m.) until 23.00 at night (11 p.m.), usually from platform 9. Tartu Airport is located in Ülenurme, about 9 km from Tartu.
Recently two regular international airlines were opened in Tartu to make connections with the whole world possible via Riga and Stockholm. The Air Baltic 46-seat Fokker 50 flies between Tartu and Riga, the flight lasting only 50 minutes.

To find the timetables of buses from Tartu Airport to Tartu, insert bus station names Lennujaam (Tartumaa) and Tartu. The buses take you to the central bus station. To get to Tartu city center it is also possible to use taxi services.
From Helsinki to Tallinn by ferry and from Tallinn sea port to bus terminal
Fly to Helsinki (Finland), take an airport taxi (you can book one online - sales@airporttaxi.fi or take a vacant one from the airport) from the airport to the harbor and then sail From Helsinki to Tallinn. From Tallinn, take a bus to Tartu.

Getting to Tartu by train
Trains from Tallinn train station leave 3-4 times a day, and it takes a little more than 2 hours to get to Tartu. The train station is situated just outside the Tallinn Old Town and sea port, a taxi or tram No.2 (from the sea port) can take you there ("Balti jaam" stop). Trains are comfortable and some even have free wireless Internet access. To get from Tartu train station to Tartu city center it is possible to use taxi services.
